Nobody likes to become a victim of card fraud. So to assist Hunter United members we have prepared a checklist of simple things you can do to protect yourself from becoming a victim of Debit Card fraud:

  • Carefully check that EFTPOS transaction amounts are correct before entering your PIN to authorise the transaction;
  • Never send credit card information via email in order to complete a transaction or confirm your details - email is not a secure form of communication.;
  • Never disclose sensitive information to someone you do not know over the phone. If you are speaking to Hunter United, we will need to ask necessary questions to authenticate your identity to stop unauthorised access to your account. We will never request your complete card number but we may request a small portion of the card number to confirm the card in question to assist you with your enquiry.
  • Never disclose your PIN to anyone. If you are speaking to a retailer, you may legitimately be asked for your card number, issue date, expiry date, or 3–digit security number–but NOT for your PIN. Hunter United will never request you for your PIN.
  • If you are uncertain that you a speaking to a Hunter United staff member, ask for their name and advise you will call them back. Never call back on the number provided, always call our Member Contact Centre on 02 4941 3888 and we can put you in contact with any staff member you require.
  • Ensure your computer has antivirus and personal firewall programs installed and updated regularly.
  • To ensure your payment information is protected when making purchases online, always check for the padlock symbol on your web browser and the web address starts with https://. You will always see these when using our secured Ezy Net Internet Banking service.
  • Open your statements promptly and compare the listed transactions with their receipts;
  • Periodically check your account activity looking for questionable transactions or sudden changes in balance – Hunter United’s EzyNet Internet Banking and SMS Alerts are two convenient services you can use to keep a close eye on your accounts.
  • Consider the use of a card registration service so that in the event of loss or theft, swift action can be taken;
  • Loss or theft of a Debit Card should be reported to Hunter United immediately.

Unfortunately, even with the most stringent procedures and processes in place, fraud can still occur. To minimise your loss it is important that you notify Hunter United of any discrepancies or suspicious activities as soon as possible on 02 4941 3888.
